SOAP Project

July 9, 2016 @ 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

July 9, 2016 from 9:30-3:00

The Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking is joining TraffickFree to S.O.A.P. up the RNC.

S.O.A.P. stands for “Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution” and is a hands-on educational and outreach program to help fight sex trafficking in community hotels and motels, especially during the time of large events.  Their mission is “…to educate and rescue…” Victims are provided a number to call for help and hotel/motel staff are trained to identify signs of sex trafficking with instruction on how to report the crime.

On July 9th, we hope to make contact with all Akron area hotel/motels to do this, but we need your help!

Our plan is to leave the Akron area at 8:15 a.m. on July 9th and hopefully carpool to Case Western Reserve University – Student Center, 10900 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, 44106. Once we arrive, volunteers will help label bars of soap with the human trafficking hotline number, listen to an inspiring message and receive training from S.O.A.P. founder Theresa Flores, Human Trafficking Survivor, Advocate and Author, then drive back to the Akron area to reach out to the hotels in our area.  Theresa’s message is very powerful, inspiring and well worth your time to hear!  As a 15-year-old girl in an upper middle-class suburban neighborhood, Theresa endured two years of being sex trafficked. At the same time, she was an avid track runner, an older sister to three brothers, and an all-American girl. No one, not even her parents, knew she was being trafficked for sex.

Please go to http://www.eventbrite.com/e/soap-up-rnc-tickets-25070326020 to register.  ALSO, please inform Susan Ross that you will be participating so that we can make car pool travel arrangements.  You can email susan at sross@akronohio.gov or call (330) 375-2912 and leave a message.  We need to know soon whether you can join us to let the organizers know how many volunteers we are providing.
